Children's privacy

The commitments

• Nothing a child does in Magnet is sold, shared for advertising, or used to train machine learning models.
• There is no advertising anywhere in the product, targeted or otherwise.
• There is no public profile, no social feed, no follower system and no way for anyone outside the household to contact a child.
• Children's accounts are created and controlled by the adult who holds the household.

How a child's account is created

Children cannot sign themselves up. A household is created by an adult, who then adds each family member and sets their role. A child's account exists only inside that household and cannot be used anywhere else.

A child's account needs a display name, a username and a password. An email address is optional and usually absent, because most children do not need one to sign in.

What a child can see

The child role is deliberately narrower than an adult's:

• Their own jobs, points and rewards.
• The shared family calendar, lists and meal plan.
• Trips as a countdown and a packing list, with all money hidden.

Budgets, repayments and household costs are never shown to a child account.

Points are not punishment

Reward points can be given for ways to earn and spent on rewards. They are not taken away as a consequence for behaviour, and the product does not provide a mechanism for that. It is a deliberate design decision, not an oversight.

Parental control

The account holder can at any time, without contacting us:

• See everything in the household, including everything a child has added.
• Change or remove a child's account.
• Export the household's content as files.
• Delete a child's account or the entire household.

Guest passes

Grandparents and other relatives can be given a guest pass, which is read-only and limited to what the account holder shares: typically the calendar, a trip map and photo albums. Guests cannot change anything, and cannot see money.
