Magnet is meant to be usable by everyone in a household, including the grandparent reading it on a tablet at arm's length. This is what we do, and what we know is not finished.
What is built in
- Every interactive element has a visible focus ring, and it is never removed.
- Dialogs trap focus while open and return it to whatever opened them.
- Interactive rows respond to Space and Enter, not just clicks.
- Icon-only controls carry text labels for screen readers. Decorative emoji are hidden from them.
- Colour is never the only signal: people are identified by name or initials as well as their colour.
- Text sits on backgrounds chosen for contrast, and body text can be zoomed without breaking the layout.
prefers-reduced-motionis respected. Animation, tilt and scroll effects switch off.- Content is never hidden behind an animation that must run before it becomes visible.
Known gaps
We would rather list these than claim a level of conformance we have not audited:
- We have not completed a formal WCAG 2.2 audit. We aim at AA and have not verified every criterion.
- Screen reader testing has been limited. If something reads badly, we want to hear about it.
- Some dense screens, particularly trip budgets and the meal planner, are harder to use at very large text sizes.
Tell us
If any part of Magnet is hard to use, email accessibility@magnet.family. Describe what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and mention any assistive technology you use. Specific reports get fixed faster than general ones, and we treat them as bugs rather than feature requests.
